Who is Wewelkandura Tea Factory?

New Wewelkandura Tea Factory (Pvt) Ltd is a proud member of the Hansagiri Group, crafting premium-quality Ceylon tea since 1998. We operate two state-of-the-art facilities — Wewelkandura Tea Factory in Kalawana, near the Sinharaja Rainforest, and Kothmale Tea Factory in the misty highlands — producing 100% pure Ceylon tea with no additives or artificial ingredients.

What tea products do you offer?

We offer both retail and bulk export products. Our retail range includes Kahata Tea (available in 100g, 200g, 400g, and 1 kg) and premium Tea Bags (25, 50, and 100 bags). For wholesale and export, we produce over 13 internationally recognised Ceylon tea grades including BOP, BOPF, FBOP, FBOPF Extra Special, Orange Pekoe, and Dust grades, supplying buyers across 50+ markets worldwide.

What quality certifications do you hold?

We hold three internationally recognised certifications: ISO 22000:2018 (Food Safety Management System), HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices). These certifications cover every stage of our production — from incoming green leaf to final dispatch — ensuring our teas consistently meet the world's most stringent food safety and quality standards.

What is the difference between low-grown and high-grown Ceylon tea?

The altitude at which tea is grown has a direct impact on its flavour. Our Wewelkandura factory in Kalawana produces low-grown tea (below 600 m) near the Sinharaja Rainforest — these teas are bold, full-bodied, and richly coloured, ideal for strong everyday drinking. Our Kothmale factory sits at over 1,000 m elevation in the cool highlands, producing high-grown tea with a bright golden liquor, delicate aroma, and a brisk, refined character.

Are your teas 100% pure with no additives?

Yes, without exception. Every tea we produce is made exclusively from fresh green leaves — no artificial flavourings, preservatives, colours, or additives of any kind are used at any stage of production. What you get in every pack is pure, authentic Ceylon black tea.

What sustainability practices does Wewelkandura follow?

Sustainability is at the core of how we operate. We run a 200 kW solar installation that powers our factory operations, significantly reducing our carbon footprint. All production by-products are repurposed as bio-fuel and natural fertiliser — a zero-waste cycle. We also actively support over 16,000 community members in the regions where we operate through education, healthcare, and infrastructure programmes.

How can I visit your factories or get in touch?

We welcome trade visits to both our Wewelkandura factory in Kalawana (Ratnapura District) and our Kothmale highland facility. Factory hours are Monday to Saturday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. You can reach us at tea@hansagiri.lk, call +94 34 7 426 125, or use the contact form on our Contact Us page. We aim to respond to all enquiries within 24 hours.
