The Craft Behind Every Cup of Wewelkandura Tea

A clear look at the careful stages behind every Wewelkandura cup, from hand-plucked green leaf to packed and traceable finished tea.

Every great cup of Wewelkandura Tea begins with the careful hand-plucking of two leaves and a bud. Fresh leaves are delivered to our factory within hours to preserve their natural freshness and quality.

Leaf Inspection

Every delivery of fresh green leaf is carefully inspected before entering the manufacturing process. Our quality team assesses leaf freshness, plucking standard, and the ratio of fine leaves to ensure only the highest-quality leaf is accepted.

Withering

Fresh tea leaves are gently withered for 12–18 hours to reduce moisture and prepare them for processing. Carefully controlled airflow creates the perfect leaf condition for the next stage.

Rolling

The softened leaves are gently rolled to release their natural enzymes while preserving their unique character. The rolling method is selected according to the leaf quality and the style of tea being produced.

Oxidation (Fermentation)

During oxidation, the leaves naturally develop the rich colour, aroma, and flavour that define premium black tea. Our experienced tea makers carefully monitor every batch to achieve the perfect balance.

Drying

Hot air drying stops oxidation and locks in the tea's distinctive flavour and aroma. The moisture is reduced to a safe level, ensuring freshness and long shelf life.

Grading & Sorting

The dried tea is graded into internationally recognised sizes before passing through advanced colour sorting technology. Our five-stage and four-stage optical colour sorters ensure exceptional purity, consistency, and quality in every batch.

Quality Control

Every batch is professionally tasted and evaluated for colour, aroma, flavour, and appearance before approval. Only teas that meet our strict quality standards carry the Wewelkandura name.

Packing & Distribution

Approved tea is hygienically packed, sealed, and labelled under the Wewelkandura and Kothmale brands. Complete traceability ensures every package can be tracked from the tea garden to customers around the world.
